The rocket ship of the tech world you haven't heard about yet.

Why, you ask? Because news about servers, infrastructure-level technologies, and new business models around shared computing resources isn't exactly the stuff of thrilling headlines. To top it off, these technologies are complex, but mastering them—especially as a college student—can be extremely rewarding professionally and financially.

iX Founder & CEO

"We recognize that industry is changing exponentially fast, which inspires us to work directly with companies to understand the skills they need most. There is no faster-growing business than Amazon, and iXperience is excited to collaborate with AWS Academy and prepare the next generation to pursue in-demand cloud roles."

Bernadine Jeffrey
Africa Training Manager, Amazon Web Services

"We believe that cloud computing skills will be amongst the most important for those working in any technology fields in the years to come. Our collaboration with iXperience has the potential to significantly impact the rapidly evolving career landscape."

But first: What is Cloud Computing?

The platform almost every modern website or service is built upon.
The "cloud" is a massive network of computers.

Most companies today no longer buy and maintain their own computers (called servers) to host their websites—they lease those computers from others. They do this because, due to technological progress, computing power has become extremely cheap. Imagine if staying in a hotel cost $1 per night, not $100. Would you ever buy a house?

Companies need engineers to maintain this network.

People and companies use computers for a huge variety of things—running calculations, storing files and images, sending or receiving information, and so on—so companies that provide cloud services (like Amazon Web Services) need an army of engineers to make sure all these computers are functioning properly. That's where you and your new skill set come in: learning the techniques these engineers use may help you land up at the world's biggest companies.

There's a massive skills demand in the industry.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounted for around 10% of Amazon's total revenue in 2018, or over $25 billion (more than McDonalds'). According to LinkedIn data, Cloud Computing is the #1 skill companies need most in 2019, up there with Artificial Intelligence!

iX is committed to ensuring the relevance of education for the modern economy by bridging the gap between college and work.

iX meant developing a new skill with a new group of people. It meant broadening my horizons and taking a risk to step out of my comfort zone. Mostly importantly, iX meant challenging myself both mentally and physically to push my boundaries.

iXperience is an amazing opportunity to meet new people, enjoy life in a new area of the world, learn and develop new skills, and try your hand in an industry you didn't think you would have the chance to work in.

iXperience was a one-of-a-kind learning and cultural immersion. I gained experience and knowledge both inside and outside of the classroom in ways I never had before. I can now say that I have incredible new skills and have used what I learned to make an impact at a start up company in Cape Town.
